Better CBD Oil
Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is a chemical compound found in mature hemp and cannabis plants. However, the Food and Drug Administration stands its ground that legal CBD products in the market should not emanate from marijuana but hemp. For that reason, most famed CBD oil products do not have delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC, the psychoactive property in marijuana.
What CBD Oil Does To Dogs
Hitherto, pharmacists, and healthcare practitioners cannot speak with certainty about what CBD does to dogs. As of the moment, there is no formal study that can prove the positive or negative effects of using CBD on dogs. Is that all? Hardly!

Dr. Klein opines, “Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and other properties, CBD can be used to treat nausea, loss of appetite, anxiety, cancer, and cardiac problems.” However, Dr. Klein also notes that there is no concrete evidence to support CBD’s various uses on dogs.
Possible Side Effects and Risks of Using CBD Oil on Dogs
We cannot emphasize enough that no data shows CBD side effects on dogs and the possible risks. However, that does not mean there are no potential risks involved. It is logical to borrow from what CBD does on humans.
Some of the side effects of using CBD oil on dogs may include:
Dry mouth – this is perhaps the first thing that is likely to be seen on the dog that has used CBD oil. Research indicates that CBD oil plays a significant role in the decreased production of saliva. Owners will know their pets do not have enough saliva because they will start to look for drinking water, something it is thirsty.
Drowsiness – pharmacists and healthcare practitioners may prescribe CBD oil to combat the pet’s anxiety. While the drug shows positive results in eliminating the problems, chances of leaving the dog with drowsiness are inexcusable.
Low blood pressure – high CBD dose on dogs may lead to a lowered blood pressure. Although the drop in blood pressure is slight, the situation is enough to necessitate headaches on the dog.
Relief From the 2018 Farm Bill
The 2018 Agriculture Improvement Act, commonly known as the 2018 Farm Bill, gave hemp a relief when it removed it together with its derivatives from a group of substances that need to be controlled.
What the Bill did not do is to change the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) strict stance on cannabis as well as compounds derived from cannabis. Therefore, in FDA’s view, the situation of CBD and cannabis at large remains the same.
Because of FDA’s stern stance on marijuana and hemp, it is tough to even licensed growers to cultivate and harvest hemp when they want. In the end, the FDA has only approved very few products derived from marijuana and hemp.
In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has approved only one CBD drug against three drugs that contain THC in the market. All these drugs are for human use.
Besides, it is still illegal to inject or include CBD into whole food or even into dietary supplements.
According to Stephanie McGrath from Colorado State University, the 2018 Farm Bill came at the right time and will open the door for researchers to look into the various uses of CBD oil.
“I think with the 2018 Farm Bill some things have shifted,” McGrath said in 2019. McGrath is probably the first author of several articles and journals that speak about CBD.
He continued to say that thanks to the Bill, many people would now come out to carry out more research on the subject. “I think the Bill opened up some research avenues for people, so I’ve been joined by others, which is great. I think on the scientific and legal side, things are moving in a positive direction, although slowly, unfortunately.”
Dr. Klein, who we mentioned earlier, points out that there is so much to talk about CBD now than at any other time in history. He attributes this to the continued legalization of marijuana in many states and other parts of the world. Because of that, many have come out to explore the possible effects of CBD oil in humans and animals.
“We are likely to see continued interest in CBD and a surge in the research of its uses and efficacy in the coming years,” said Dr. Klein.
